In August of 2005, Petey, our Founder, lost his seven-year-old granddaughter Marissa Sabrina Reyes to a sudden and raging flash flood near Scottsdale, Arizona. This event changed Grandpa Petey's life forever!
At Marissa's "Celebration of Life" he vowed to build a suitable memorial in her honor and for all children worldwide who are lost due to a natural disaster. To build a special place to help families better understand the sudden loss of their children and to help spread Marissa's spirit of love, learning and kindness worldwide.
The TahitiPetey Foundation, in part through the revenue received from the sale of Petey's books, online retail sales and funding from a portion of our paying StarFish Organization members monthly membership fees, will build its signature Marissa's Reef for Heavenly Helpers, an aquatic-theme living memorial.
To grasp the concept, imagine a sixty foot (60') round acrylic aquarium tank 30 feet tall or tube of water, with an amazing tropical reef formation in the center. The goal is to include it within a stand alone project called the Marissa Centre to be built on a yet to be determined island destination by 2014.
Imagine the parents or family members who lost a child suddenly to a flash flood, an earthquake, an avalanche, hurricane, typhoon or any other natural disaster, releasing a reef fish they have selected to represent their lost child into the Sea-of-Angels ,where their child's SpiritFish will be set free to live within Marissa's Reef, a beautiful and harmonious reality. See more on this project on the Foundation web site.
The lost child's name will also be etched into the Marissa's Reef for Heavenly Helpers Memorial, a granite wall within the project that will feature a unique video scrapbook. Any family member or family approved visitor, may remember the lost child with journal entries, pictures and video clips, by placing them into a digital guest book that is available for general public viewing.
To help us make this project happen, please purchase one or more of Petey's books and become a paying StarFish Organization member as soon as possible.
