The Coolest Student Scholarship Program

The
TahitiPetey Foundation has developed several unique programs and projects, but one of Petey's favorites is his Adopt-A-Fish Student Scholarship Program, which will be co-ventured with a number of global brand partners and launched in 2010.

Our primary objective with this program is to offer our membership a program that will increase the environmental consciousness of both their student children and families with interesting science-backed information in an interactive online platform.

The program targets school age children from kindergarten through high school, and will consist of an interactive online home study curriculum that blends the beauty and importance of our oceans, together with building an awareness of how Climate Change and other marine conservation issues impact our lives.

By engaging the child’s parents, siblings and other relatives to work with the children, we will offer an interactive web platform loaded with fun and exciting games in which all Member families can participate. These online games will be integrated with learning experiences involving various media that will explore marine life and the associated environmental issues.

Students will have an opportunity to adopt and name a numbered “Virtual Reef Fish” online. This will be symbolized by a small plush toy reef fish that we will send to each child after joining the program, along with a fish birth certificate and information booklet that outlines the program.

The program will be free for all students of active StarFish Organization members, because our paying members help fund this program with their monthly dues.

Here's how it will work:
Students must agree to care for a “Virtual Reef Fish” until they graduate from high school to earn funding toward college. They will be required to log onto the Adopt-A-Fish web site monthly, linked through our site, to complete a report on their fish, and continue learning about Climate Change, rising sea levels and marine conservation issues.

During each monthly visit, they must complete a monthly quiz to earn either a digital Bronze, Gold or Platinum StarFish, as determined by the parents membership level that month (free StarFish, FoundersClub or ReefShark).

Now the good part! Once the child/student completes high school, they will be able to redeem their accrued
StarFish towards their college or any secondary school tuition fees, at a rate of $50 per Bronze, $75 per Gold and $100 per Platinum, which is paid for by the students designated country’s Adopt-A-Fish Scholarship Fund (yet to be established).

Parents must remain active as a free bronze member of our StarFish Organization at a minimum to allow their children to participate in this program long-term. Call it a hook, but that's the just the way it's got to be.

Scholarship values are doubled when the student elects a marine-related science, climate studies or related ocean management major. All scholarship program development and administration costs are paid for by our
AngelFish Trust Fund allocation to the TahitiPetey Foundation, who will oversee and manages this program.

Stay tuned as we continue to develop this program and our membership platform in the coming months, we hope to launch this program by March 2010.
